Annapolis, MD / August 7, 2019 – ClearHealth Quality Institute™ (CHQI) today released draft accreditation standards for a new aspect of its Telemedicine Accreditation Program – the Telemedicine Outcomes Supplement. CHQI’s Telemedicine Accreditation Program is the only telemedicine accreditation program recognized by the American Telemedicine Association (ATA).
When finalized, CHQI’s Telemedicine Outcomes Supplement Standards will provide the first opportunity for telemedicine programs to have an accreditation agency validate the strength of their outcomes measurement programs in five key areas: access to care, clinical effectiveness, clinical experience/satisfaction, financial impact and operational benchmarks.
The Telemedicine Outcomes Supplement, an optional component of CHQI’s existing Telemedicine Accreditation Program, will offer telemedicine programs the ability to earn an additional accreditation seal that demonstrates to stakeholders an enhanced emphasis on the implementation, analysis and reporting of specific telemedicine program outcomes. Applicants will also need to demonstrate actionable tasks that will lead to improved patient outcomes resulting from their analysis.
The public policy goal associated with the new Telemedicine Outcomes Supplement is to build upon the recommendations made by the National Quality Forum Report, Creating a Framework to Support Measure Development for Telehealth (August 2017).
The public comment period, beginning on August 7, 2019 and closing on September 7, 2019, will allow interested parties to provide feedback on the draft Telemedicine Outcomes Supplement Standards before they are finalized. Feedback received during the public comment period will be carefully reviewed to help CHQI further refine the standards. To request a copy of the draft standards, email email@example.com.
“The CHQI Telemedicine Outcomes Workgroup, which includes a wide range of key industry stakeholders, has produced a comprehensive standards document that reflects diverse viewpoints,” said Jason Goldwater, MPA, MA, PMP, Senior Principal, Atlas Research, & Chair, CHQI Telemedicine Outcomes Workgroup. “Public comment is an important step in the standards development process and we look forward to feedback.”
“CHQI is committed to building a best-in-class ecosystem of telemedicine/telehealth standards to promote evidence-based virtual care,” said Michael Gomes, CEO, CHQI. “Given the telemedicine industry’s important and increased focus on driving improved patient outcomes, the CHQI Telemedicine Outcomes Supplement will serve as a crucial third-party assessment of best practices in the measurement and management of telemedicine outcomes.”
